Long Island Attempted Bank Robbery Suspect On Run

Police are searching for a bank robber who allegedly attempted to rob a Long Island bank while threatening a weapon and demanding cash.

The incident took place in Westbury around 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 4, at the Bank of America at 248 Post Ave., in Westbury.

According to Robbery Squad detectives, an unknown man entered the Bank of America and approached the teller. The man threatened a weapon and produced a hand-written note demanding cash from the employee.

After reading the note, the teller, age 36, walked away from her station and the man fled the bank through the rear door without receiving any cash, police said.

Officers said once the man was in the parking lot he fled eastbound on Winthrop Street. There were four bank employees and several customers in the bank at the time of the robbery. No injuries were reported. 

The suspect is described as being Hispanic, approximately 5-foot-8, of average build, light brown complexion, brown eyes, wearing a grey colored zippered sweatshirt with a hood over a black colored sweater, black colored baseball cap with a design on the front, black cloth mask, and black colored winter gloves.
